Slipknot Drummer Comments On Band's Future, His Sobriety
Slipknot's Joey Jordison is spending his summer playing drums for Rob Zombie and working up to the release of a Murderdolls album, but notes Slipknot will eventually regroup to record another disc. The drummer tells "The Des Moines Register" they'll never be able to replace bassist Paul Gray, who passed away a few months ago. But he says all the surviving band members can play both guitar and bass guitar, so they have options in the studio. He also notes band members are in no rush, adding, quote, "We'll get to that point when we get there. But I want everyone to know...that no matter what I'm doing right now with Zombie and Murderdolls, that Slipknot will return." Jordison says he's still mourning the death of Gray, whom he considered his best friend and musical soul mate. The drummer also says he's given up the excesses that befell Gray. He explains, quote, "I've been done with that stuff for three years. I thought it was fun and games but it's not...It caught up with me, and that's it. I just stopped. Life is definitely a lot more precious now. Music right now, really, when I play it, it's like I'm playing it for all the people that I've lost. I think about them all the time." Paul Gray died of an accidental drug overdose in May. He was 38.
