Mary J. Blige Teams Up With NASA For Education
"The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul" Mary J. Blige is teaming up with NASA to entice more young women to achieve their academic dreams. The singer's FFAWN charity, short for the Foundation For The Advancement of Women Now, has partnered with the space agency to encourage young women to take more interest in math and science. Blige says every woman deserves a chance at things that "they've never gotten a shot at."
The NASA-FFAWN partnership aims to encourage young women to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics -- or STEM. The effort is NASA's answer to President Obama's Educate to Innovate Campaign. Blige says she teamed up with NASA because she can reach an audience of young women the space agency doesn't.
The singer is also working on a new album and biopic about musical great Nina Simone which is expected to begin production early next year. The release of her My Life fragrance last month sold over 60-thousand units in just six hours. One dollar from the sale of every bottle is going to Blige's FFAWN charity. |
