Beyonce Opens Brooklyn Cosmetology Center
Beyonce's name now hangs over a cosmetology center in Brooklyn. MTV.com reports that the singer opened the new Beyonce Cosmetology Center at Brooklyn, New York's Phoenix House Friday night. The House is a non-profit recovery center for drug addicts and the singer says she and her mother, Tina Knowles, are proud to be a part of it. The mother-daughter team have pledged 100-thousand dollars to the center annually. Along with L'Oreal, they have helped to create a, quote, "seven-month cosmetology training course for adult men and women."
Beyonce first visited Phoenix House in 2007 while doing research for her role as Etta James in the film, "Cadillac Records." She told the crowd Friday night that she, quote, "felt like they needed something that was geared towards women -- something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House." New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was present while the singer delivered her speech at the event. |
