Denver Botanic Gardens Says “Thank You” To Denver Residents With Free Day |
| |
Denver Botanic Gardens announced today that all residents of Denver County will be allowed free admission to the Gardens’ York Street location on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6.
The Gardens’ new, approximately 50,000 square-foot Greenhouse Complex was funded by the citizens of Denver through the Better Denver Bond Campaign which allocated just over $15 million for the greenhouse construction. This free day is the Gardens’ way of saying “thank you” to voters in the metro area, and will give Denver County residents a free opportunity to explore the new structure.
"Without the support of the people of Denver, this phenomenal, facility would not have become a reality," said Brian Vogt, CEO of Denver Botanic Gardens. "As a small way of thanking all of the voters who have supported us, we are inviting all of them to the Gardens to not only enjoy our new Greenhouse Complex, but to also experience all 23 acres of the Gardens, including our brand new, 3-acre Mordecai Children’s Garden."
The new Greenhouse Complex is state-of-the-art with flexibility for 12 climate zone control options that show visitors how plants grow in different environments. Other sections of the building give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of propagating, growing and maintaining plants at the Gardens for outdoor and indoor displays.
Visitors to the Greenhouse Complex will also experience the beauty of the new Marnie’s Pavilion, which contains waterfalls that are part of a new newly constructed mountain holding orchids, bromeliads, ferns and aquatic plants. The facility also includes an Orangery with seasonal year-round displays reminiscent of traditional European Renaissance garden displays. Displaying citrus trees and other seasonal colorful plants, this space consists of roll-up doors that will remain open during seasonable weather spilling the plant displays outside onto the terrace.
Denver Botanic Gardens will be open on Labor Day from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
