Saw VI Soundtrack

It’s fitting that a staunch metal and prominent indie label like Trustkill would release the soundtrack to perhaps the most anticipated horror movie of the Halloween season, Saw VI. For some reason this franchise still has legs, seeing as how it’s main attraction, Jigsaw, the man, not the doll, has been dead for three movies. Regardless, the soundtracks to these movies just keep getting better and better, and while we will have to wait and see how the movie is, this soundtrack might be the strongest yet.

The record itself is split into three different movements, much like the movie itself, entitled ‘6 Chances,’ ‘6 Lessons’ and ‘6 Choices.’ Also, go ahead and download it and you’ll get three additional bonus tracks from Miss May I, Ventana and the 69 Eyes.

Like most soundtracks, this one surely has its number of ups and downs. With a collection as volatile as this, there are sure to be a few misses, tracks that just don’t seem to fit. Among them, the majority of the end of the record (‘The Sinatra’ - My My Misfire, ‘Lethal Injection’ - The Flood, ‘More Than A Sin’ - James Brothers). But with a soundtrack that boasts the likes of Every Time I Die (‘Roman Holiday’), Chimaira (‘Warpath’) and Shadows Fall (‘Still I Rise’ – Saw VI Remix); it’s hard to completely dismiss the body of work. In other words, the pros outweigh the cons.

Speaking of the pros, the album touches on all ranges of the metal spectrum. For those that are into the heaviest of the heavy, fear not, Saw VI has you covered. This soundtrack houses bands like Suicide Silence (‘Genocide – Saw VI Remix’), Converge (‘Dark Horse’) and Kittie (‘Cut Throat’). For those that are into hardcore, check out Hatebreed (‘In Ashes They Shall Reap’) and Memphis May Fire (‘Ghost in the Mirror’). Looking for goth metal? Be sure to skip to Type O Negative (‘Dead Again’) or Nitzer Ebb (‘Never Known’). Whatever you are looking for on the heavier end of things, Saw VI will surely put that smile on your face.

With movie soundtracks pretty much a dying breed, giving way more and ,ore to movie scores with each passing movie, it is good to see a solid one come down the pipes once in a while, and believe you me, this one might be one of, if not the, best we get for some time. Not to mention, it’s all metal baby.
