Have you ever wondered what would be a soundtrack for coasting down a river in a canoe? Or have you ever been around a campfire in the woods wondering what music would fit the occasion? Well then, Autumn and the Fall Guys Witch of November just might be the music, and the record, you are looking for.
Witch of November is good soundtrack music, or good setting music. It is a smoothly enjoyable blend of banjos, guitars, bass, saw, dobro and vocals, that works itself out musically in the end. I like this record because it is full of solid musicians telling stories through music and song. I think that you will like it too.
For some reason, each time I listen to Letter to Me, I keep thinking that it is the theme song from Gilligan’s Island. Not that that is a bad thing, but it is just weird. There are good vocals all over Witch of November and Galway Girl and Fly through Atlanta house some of the best. The guitars on this record are great, whether it’s a banjo, a bass (I’m picturing either something homemade or a stand up), or traditional guitar. There are a few different vocalists, but either way you slice it, you are going to get someone with a good voice. Mountain Dew and Red Bird are two of the finer, better-rounded tracks as well. They might even induce you into singing along; you never know.
I would have liked to see some instrumental variety like a washboard or a jog, but still Witch of November is good for what it is.
Witch of November is a different record, full of music you might not otherwise normally listen to, but it is good all the same. If you are looking for something to groove on while you are sitting around a campfire, or are looking for a record to spin while you are relaxing on your porch at night, then this record is what you have been looking for. It should help to settle your mind and help you unwind.
